Oh March how I love you, you remind me of Spring and all that I love in the warmer weather.  It's hard to believe March is now ending and we are into yet another new month.  I've had a great month and hope to keep it up!  I wish you all a great month ahead too!

My Review:
What did I think of this book?  Hhmmm...I was a bit disappointed in it to be honest.  I read this authors other work and LOVED it, so maybe I was expecting too much, but I did not come to love this book.  I did finish it though, so that is something to say I suppose.  I continued reading it for the simple facts of:  I do love this author's other work, the characters in this book were intriguing and well developed, there was some action that kept me wanting to read on, and I did enjoy the plot line.  What made me not sure about this book and come to not really love it was a few things; first, I found it to be a very slow moving book as far as action with the monsters; second, the book was a lot of build up to the "good part" and to the action, but then it made you wait and wait and wait to get to the action/good part and repeated things to the point of me thinking "again with this".  I just feel there was a lot of writing on a lot of pages to say what could have been put into half the book it was.  Like I said though, I did like the characters and how they developed over the course of the pages.  Also, the ending really picked up and made me think "here it is, here is what I was waiting for from this author".  All in all I can't give this book a horrible rating, because it did have good content, it just wasn't what I was expecting from the author is all.  Also, maybe if you are more into the war type of reads, perhaps the book would have your attention all the way through.

Will I continue to try out this author's books?  YOU BET!  Why?  Because I really do love the way he wrote the other book I read of his.  I can't toss aside a talented author just because he wrote one book I didn't care for.

My Review:
I can't express how much I loved this book!  I grabbed the reins of this read and had the ride of my life until the finish line.  Instantly I fell in love with the characters, especially Nikki Latrelle, the girl who came from a life of hard knocks but is determined to rise above her past to do what she loves well, that being a horse jockey.  Nikki has a personality that makes you love and respect her, even as a reader.  She may be in a male dominant sport, but that doesn't keep her from doing it because she loves it and wants nothing more than to be a jockey and take care of horses.  Her attitude is also one to find amusing and humorous.  Nikki is a fun girl with friends, but being from a rough past she has an attitude and personality tough as nails.  She may not make friends super easy, but those she holds dear she would do anything for.  Lorna Doone is another fascinating character, that's for sure.  She may have a name that instantly makes you think of a sweet cookie, but don't let that fool you, she is a wild one with a hard to tame attitude.  There are many more characters, but those two just had to be my favorites.  Not only was I grabbed by the characters and how well they were developed, but the plot was amazing to me.  There were many things going on in the plot for mysteries, but at no time was I confused.  I loved the diet cocktail that was killing jockeys mystery and the underlying mystery of the questionable bourbon that held more mystery than alcohol.  Then there was the mystery of Bobby himself, who just seems to mysterious to possibly be a good guy.  It started off with a bang and the twists and turns of it didn't end until the very end of the book.  I was constantly on edge waiting to read on and turn the pages to see what would happen next and what Nikki would have to face next.  Also, all the horses and the settings for the story were great to read.  I have a love for horses and I just loved reading about them along with the mystery plot.  I could just picture all the beautiful horses that were described in this book along with the wonderful settings.  I could see the story happen in my head as I read it, it was like watching a movie in my head, it was so clear.  This book was very well written and I just loved every word and page of it.  I will definitely be reading on in this series.  This was a true work of art by a wonderful and very talented author.  Sasscer Hill really won first place with this book in my eyes.  Keep up the great work Hill!  For sure one of my new favorite authors!

Mount TBR Challenge Quarterly Checkpoint

My Review:
I am left a bit unsure of this book.  I am not a huge fan of short stories, but this book full of them seemed to work for the most part to make a good read.  The stories were connected enough to make them seem like chapters of a book.  However, they; being short stories, did not flow together in a seamless way.  They were connected enough to make me see the connection and fill in the gaps between stories on my own, but they would have been better, I think if they had been made into a full novel with the gaps filled in by the author.  I found it to be an interesting read all in all and I am glad I read it.  It was also a quick read which I was able to sit down with and read in an afternoon.  It did keep my attention by making me wonder what the next short story would be about and where it would fit in.  My suggestion would be to make the stories flow better together if that is the intent.  As short stories the plot can be hard to find, but as a full novel I think it would add a great amount to it.  As I said though, it was a decent read.  I liked the bit of mystery, action, and humor in the stories.  The characters were also pretty neat and easy to want to read more about and to like.

My Review:
I can't say that I was deeply intrigued with this book by any means.  I found it to be too soft and fluffy of a romance for my taste.  I like a bit more pace in the plot and more mystery with the romance.  The story was an okay one if you are reading it only for the love story with the rest being just background to you as a reader, which like I just said, I like some mystery or a heavier underlying plot with my romance reads, so this was not a book for me.  The writing was very well done and the characters were really well thought out and written.  I enjoyed Carter, the woman archaeologist who is doing what she loves and loving what she does, but is also trying to hide from her past, a life she wishes not to ever remember or be part of again; and Nick, a rich and powerful man who is used to getting what he wants easily and never having to worry about commitment to any woman, because there are many more willing to date him when the current one gets too clingy; very much as characters and I had fun watching their love blossom and grow, no matter how much they knew they should not be together or wished they wouldn't be together.  I also liked the archaeology in the book and how it was the reason Carter came to meet Nick in the first place.  I enjoyed reading about the dig and what they hoped to find (long lost people and gold) and really found (well, you'll have to read it yourself to find this out).  The book itself was not bad, it just wasn't for me.  If you enjoy reading a romance this book would be for you and I would recommend it.  I had good points and is well worth checking out, if for nothing else but the characters and how they interact throughout the book.

Twelve months took a very unique approach to a man dying from cancer.  Don finds out he has cancer, which is a total shock for him, and realizes that no treatment will save him, so he must make the most of his life that is left.  His wife encourages him to make a "to do” list of things he always wanted to do in life, but never did.  He realizes when he writes the list that he was a very blessed man and really did not have a lot of items to put on the list.

There are things on his list that he alone knows he has to do like right some “wrongs” from his past with old army buddies.  Other items he knows he will need his wife’s support to help him get through, like a trip to Vietnam to allow himself to grieve for old lost friends and be at peace with the people he fought against there.

The book continues with other things he feels he has to do even though he has days he can barely function due to the intense pain.  Plus, Don realizes that he wants to let a special gift for his 2 young grandchildren who he grows closer to during his journey.

This book kept you wanting to keep turning the pages and see what the next thing on the list would be and how Don; his family went through it.  An inspiring book for people who may know family or friends with this disease and see all the good that is still in life after being diagnosed.

Book Review: The Bingity-Bangity School Bus

My Review:
Busby, the old school bus, overhears people talking about how old he is and how broken down he looks and decides he should just run away so they can get a new, fancy bus.  Well, his plan goes wrong when he ends up in a field of flowers and can't get out.  Soon he learns that just because he is old and may have some "use" to him, doesn't mean no one likes him.  They really do love Busby and he is about to learn just how much.

I really enjoyed this book.  It had a great message in it for the children and even the adult readers.  Also, I just loved the pictures, they were so bright and well drawn.  This is a wonderful book and a great blast from the past read.  This was a book I actually had never read before, but found it in my Grandma's stuff when she passed on.  Being that I love books and so does my son, my Mom told me to take it.  I found it a joy to read and my son also enjoyed it.  Great book to check out if you have not already, or to re-read, if you have read it.  Great book to read for generations to come.

My Review:
I read this book not really realizing that it was a book of a series at first, and not the first book.  I must say that there were parts in which I knew there must have been a back story or at least something that happened before, but it was nothing that made me confused or frustrated by missing.  The author did a pretty good job making this book a book that could be read as a stand alone book.  The plot was quite interesting and there was plenty of paranormal mystery to keep you reading on.  I enjoyed the characters, especially Luc, who was very easy on the readers eyes when picturing him.  Corinne could be a bit much at times, but I think it added to the development of who she was as a character.  I did find there to be some slow parts, but they seemed to pick up again in a timely fashion, so they weren't too bad.  The romance of the story was great as was the erotic parts of the book.  The author was great when it came to descriptions and making the reader feel like they were in the book or watching a movie about the book.  I could see it all plain as day in my head.  I have to say one of my favorite descriptions was of the Pink Pillow sex shop, I couldn't stop laughing at the description and how it looked.  Burning her retinas to look at, as a description was so perfect for the description that followed.  All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and may pick up the other books in the series some time, but it wasn't my favorite of all times, book.  It did keep me intrigued though and wanting to read on and it was well written and had great characters that I came to just love.

My Review:
Wikkley is on a mission, a mission to save his family's farm from being repossessed.  He may only be ten years old, but he is the oldest child and only boy, so he will not let his great aunt or great uncle down.  He knows they came upon much of the hardships they have because of the three children they are raising that they wouldn't have had to.  On his journey he learns that he King may not be as personable as they think.  The King seems to be more obsessed with builing up his castle to be bigger than the neighboring King's castle.  How can he talk to a King to get help for his family if they are so busy with the Castles they don't even acknowledge him?  Will he have traveled all the way to the Kingdom just to learn it was all for not?  Will his personality of being a reckless ten year old boy ever come in handy or will it just come to get him hurt...or worse, dead?

I enjoyed this story and the values in it.  The idea of why Wikkley was doing what he was doing was touching.  He just wanted to save his family's farm from ruin because they helped raise him.  Wikkley was a quick favorite character to me.  He was funny, brave, and real to the reader.  He was one that knew how to have fun, like a boy should, but he also knew how to be serious and help others.  I loved the messages in this book and think it is a great read for children to hear and middle ages to read.  The book was well written and had a good pace to it.  The characters were also great and ones that you could understand and relate to in some way or another.  I recommend this book to anyone looking for a good story that also has lessons built in.

My Review:
This was such a cute and wonderful story.  It was very well written and had a great lesson to take away from the book too.  I could picture the story playing out in my head.  I think it's great to have children's books that are a great story that they will want to read/hear, but also that give something to them in a value way.  That is what this book does.  It shows the reader that it's not right or nice to be mean, lie, cheat, and steal, no matter what you think is best.  If you aren't true to yourself and others, bad things can happen.  The saying applies to this book's lesson of do unto others as you would want done to you.  I liked how the story went beyond just the fact of how the Piper got rid of the rats in the town, but why he did it and what he wants the town to learn from his gift to them.  Great middle grade short story that I recommend to anyone who wants to learn a bit more about the classic tale of Piper.

My Review:
Everyone has that age that they see as a "doomsday for dating" age and for Renee that age is 30, which she is quickly approaching.  She is alone and not even interested in anyone and is becoming quite panicked and desperate   Which is why when her friend Mark tells her that he wants her to join an online dating site with him, she decides why not.  As she goes through the various emails and bad dates, she can't help but think she is destined to be alone the rest of her life and become the cat lady.  Her two best girl friends couldn't be more different.  Ashley has a boyfriend who she breaks up with all the time, but always goes back to, no matter how much Renee tries to tell her not to.  Shelley on the other hand is a bit of a, well, she gets around...wink wink, but never settles down.  Is Renee destined to just live a love life through her friends?  Will she ever find someone to love and be loved by?  All she wants is to find Mr. Right, how hard can that be right?

OH MY GOSH!!!!  I ZOOMED through reading this book!  I found it super easy to read, and it was just hilarious to read.  I just couldn't put it down once I started reading it.  The characters and the plot were things I could very much relate to and could understand.  We all have that fear of being alone forever by whatever birthday we decide upon, and this is just what happens to Renee.  I love how she seems to be so contained and shy at first and then as the book moves on she becomes more open and not afraid to say it how it is and tell off a man or two in the process.  I LOVE that!  I think the main characters in this book of Mark, Renee, Shelley, and Ashley are ones that we can all read about and think of at least one person in our own lives that totally fits the bill of that character, if it's not ourselves.  I loved the email only twist on the story too, it made it seem to me like I was part of the friendship circle and reading emails from them.  I felt more connected to the story that way, is what I am saying here.  I found myself laughing out loud while reading this book several times.  I just could see it all happening and that made it even more hilarious!  The bad dates, the mistakes of hitting the send button when you meant to hit delete on an email, and the friends who just make life that much more interesting.  I kind of saw the group of friends like the "Golden Girls" of the book world for me.  Which, being I LOVE them too, was great for me.  I immediately told my friends about this book and how they just had to read it sometime.  I highly recommend this read.  It is a great, light, laugh out loud, read for any woman reader for sure.
